In 2002, Keyes was inspired to start The Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully, Inc. (C.H.O.I.C.E.S.). "The name truly reflects our mission," says Keyes, "which is to prevent obesity and eliminate the overweight epidemic in children by enabling them to make better choices as it relates to food and lifestyle." C.H.O.I.C.E.S. is a parent/child resource center for children and youth who are overweight or at risk for obesity. Keyes' program strategy is designed to be multifaceted - no single strategy in itself will be successful. Through C.H.O.I.C.E.S., children are supported with resources that include: physical fitness/training, diet and nutrition education, peer and family socialization, interactive web site programs, counseling and coaching, and community collaborations. All of these components are then backed by qualified professionals.
