Pepper Peete is Honored as Jacksonville's 2010 Community Champion

Peete is the executive director of The First Tee of Jacksonville at Brentwood. As the executive director, Peete has been instrumental in aiding and assisting African-American children in learning about, playing and benefiting from one of the most fascinating individual sports - the game of golf. The Brentwood course is special, offering a youth program and golf course that is totally dedicated to them. For Peete it is not the golf course that inspires her but the life skills children learn while on the course that is the most rewarding. More than 2,000 youth have been touched by the Brentwood program, and it has made dreams come true for many in many ways - try being a recipient of a $10,000 Jon Clay Scholarship - it happened to a First Tee of Jacksonville member, helping her to finance her college education. Peete's dedication, commitment and determination have sustained the Brentwood program thus far, and she hopes to leave a legacy for generations to come.
